- Is the crater always open? No. Weather and volcanic conditions close it. Check the same morning.
- How hard is the walk? Steep gravel, usually 20-40 minutes each way from the upper ticket area depending on the current path. Wear shoes with grip.
- Can I see lava? You see a crater and steam, not a lava lake. Anyone promising lava at the rim is selling something else.
- Same day as Pompeii? Possible if you start early and pre-book both. It is a long, hot day.
